Noah, Mommy, and Daddy Week of Fun Day 5

Before heading out for the day, we started with a much needed haircut.
Noah hasn't been wanting to have his hair combed in the morning, so he caved to Olivia's "comb it or cut it" threat and out came the clippers.

Bzzzzzz..........

Friday's big outing was to Big Basin Redwoods State Park.
Chicken and Mousy came along for the fun.

Big stick, big tree, big fun.

This is the Chimney Tree. It's a living tree with a little secret inside.

It's completely hollow! According to the park brochure, after a fire, it smoldered for more than a year before blowing its top.

He probably went twice as far because he kept running up ahead and back again.

Who lives in here? A spider we think.

Look who we found!

Noah wanted to wear the owl shoes for hiking.

Goooooooo Team!

We found Banana Slugs. We probably hiked 1/3 of our hike without seeing any, but once you find one, you can't stop seeing them. We found 10 total!!

Happy dance

The final destination for our hike was this waterfall. It was a little upsetting to see that there was a road right next to the waterfall. The joy of going for a 3 mile hike through twisty trails is finding a hidden gem at the end. It's not nearly as fun to discover any Tom, Dick or Harry could just drive up and see what you just hiked to.

Oh well, at least there were cool ferns.

And, we took advantage of that road for part of the hike back. Late in the day with a squirmy preschooler who is only getting heavier is not the time to push hiking limits.

Noah was our photographer for a bit.

Here he is trying to get the camera back.

We found a good place to snap a family photo.

The rest of the family (Chicken and Mousey) posed nicely as well.

Chicken found a banana slug.

Nice sluggy sluggy.

There's fungus among us.

A super fun end to a super fun day!
