So, the big chair of Noah's monthly photo fame, has claimed its first victim. Noah was sitting on the arm and fell backwards with his right arm pinned underneath his body. Olivia picked him up immediately and when his crying didn't stop, not even for a cookie, we called the doctor. She saw him and sent him for x-rays of both his elbow and his clavicle. When the x-rays were negative and he was still in pain after his nap, she asked us to come back and we went home with a sling, directions to be nice to his elbow, and to call back on Monday morning if it wasn't 100% better.

The sling didn't stop him from going hiking on Saturday.
He was in quite a mood on Sunday which may of may not have had to do with his arm, so I agreed to take the sling off in the car and we went for a drive. He made it about 5 blocks before falling asleep in his super manly shades. It's too bad you can't see his normal elbow for comparison, but the one in the picture is the injured one and is about twice the size of the other one. It's also slightly discolored which is also hard to see in the picture.
Monday we went back to his pediatrician and she sent us for round 2 of x-rays because she just didn't like the look of his arm. It was still very swollen and he didn't have complete range of motion, even though he was still using it. Second round of x-rays were still inconclusive, so she referred us to a pediatric orthopedist.
Tuesday, we went to the orthopedist who looked at the x-rays, looked at the swelling and said that he was sure he'd see a break if they did an MRI, but he didn't want to put Noah through that and decided a cast for 3 weeks was the best course of action. Noah had a great time pretending to be the doctor while we waited for him to come in.
And so he got a cast. A blue cast from his bicep to his hand. It wasn't the most exciting process, but he managed it okay.
The sucker made the whole ordeal much better. Too bad mom and dad didn't get suckers. That was one loooong weekend.
