Bentsen–Rio Grande Valley State Park

We went to this state park to look for birds. It was hot and Noah was not interested in birds, but Victor and Grandpa had a great time.

Noah's favorite bird of the trip was the chachalaca, although he called it the chakalaka.

Sir Topham Hat went on a grand adventure in the gravel pile.

This faucet was a godsend. A great way to cool off and prepare for the hike back to the car.

This giant cicada was crazy loud! Too bad there's nothing for size comparison, but it was probably a good 3 inches long.

Airplane time!

From San Diego, we flew to Texas to visit Grandpa and Uncle Robert.

San Diego Zoo

The first stop on our vacation was the San Diego Zoo. We met up with Auntie Alicia and Bryan and had a blast!

Noah had fun pretending to dig up fossils.

We fed him to a giant prehistoric bird.

 Look! Condors!

A springbok escaped the primary enclosure as we were walking by.

Victor, always the zookeeper, offered to help and was put in charge of crowd control until security arrived.

We had a 20 minute or so wait while they dealt with the escape and Victor was on the other side of the walkway. Thankfully, there was a fun elephant that Noah pretended was a truck to play on.

 Look, another giant prehistoric bird.

 Life sized elephant statues.

 Look out Noah!!

 Where to next...I know!

 Face painting!

The only panda we saw at the zoo. The line for the real pandas was too long, so we settled for the next best thing.

He was quite impressed with himself and had a fun time pretending to be a panda the rest of the day.

 Gorilla statues eat leaves.

This little boy was mesmerized by Noah and kept petting him.

A much needed break from all the walking.

 Making a smashed penny.

Pandas eat bamboo. Noah will tell you all about it.

Dropping leaves from the walkway into the water below.

 He's a panda, remember?

 Sleepy panda.

Un-panda-ing was not as simple as one might think.

After a lot of scrubbing, this was the best we could manage.

Thankfully he was mostly makeup free by the next morning.
